This depends on a few factors.  How old is your current computer system?  Does it just need 1 upgrade, or does it need multiple upgrades?   Which components are you wanting to upgrade and just how big of an upgrade will you need?   The professionals at Cohutta.com will examine your system and discuss with you the types of upgrades available for your computer and which you would benefit the most from.

Which component would I benefit from upgrading the most?

There are only a few components in a computer system that can be upgraded to increase performance:

.

Processor (CPU)

This is the primary number cruncher for your computer system.  It does all the calculations and 99% of the "work" the computer needs to do.  Under normal circumstances, upgrading the processor is not a feasible solution.  Simply because in most cases, you have to replace the mother board as well (which is the largest piece of equipment in your computer system).  The reason for this is that processors come in a variety of sizes and shapes as new technologies emerge.

Hard Drive

No, yours wont look like this.  The picture is of a hard dtive that is open.  Hard drives are normally sealed air tight in a metal encasement.  The hard drive is where your computer stores the information when your computer is turned off.  Programs, saved pictures and documents, anything that remains on the computer when you turn it off is on the hard drive.  Hard drives come in a wide variety of sizes.  Typically the larger drive you can afford, the better off you are.   We suggest customers do not go below an 80GB (gigabyte) hard drive.  Hard drives are emerging into the 500GB range!

CD and DVD Burners

I remember when the CD Burning technology first came to computer users.  They came with a price tag of over 500.00!  Now, you can get a CD Burner for under 100 dollars and most DVD burners for under 150 dollars.  These let you burn data onto a CD.  Depending on what you are burning and how you burn it, you can play music in any CD player, a DVD on your home DVD player, or just a CD with pictures for family and friends.  Cohuta.com will be more than happy to discuss the options when it comes to selecting a drive.

Memory (RAM)

The concept of explaining what memory is, is a little confusing.  You cant work with files directly off the hard drive.  The files are loaded into memory where you edit them and then save them back to the hard drive.  So the memory holds all the "stuff" you are currently using.  This is the main component to upgrade.  Prices are cheap and it makes a large difference.  Contact us for size options and we can suggest what size you need based on what you use your computer for.
